Diversity of Higher Education in San Antonio

Higher education in San Antonio is as diverse as the city itself.   San Antonio is home to five public community colleges; units of the two largest state-supported university systems; eight private universities, one with a school of law; a medical and dental school, and two educational centers for universities whose home campuses are in Mexico.

The greatest benefit to so much diversity is the amount of choices prospective students have when they consider their educational future.  From certificate programs in technical/professional programs to law, theology or medical degrees, a higher education from a San Antonio can prepare a student for any number of career choices.

Collaboration between the institutions themselves is another benefit of so much diversity.  Many “2 +2 programs,” or articulation agreements, enable community college students to complete the first two years at one of the community colleges and make a confident, seamless transition to the four-year school of their choice.
